EPZ P50 Review – A Remarkably Cohesive Tribrid with a Mechanical Soul

(Disclaimer: EPZ Audio graciously provided the EPZ P50 IEMs for this review.)

The world of IEMs is abuzz with innovation, and the hybrid and tribrid space is where the excitement truly takes hold. Enter the EPZ P50, a remarkable contender in the sub-$200 range that’s stealing the spotlight. With its organic combination of 1 dynamic driver (DD), 2 balanced armature (BA) drivers, and 2 planar magnetic drivers, the P50 delivers a tuning that’s not just engaging but spectacularly refined. This set masterfully balances technical prowess with musical charm, offering a sound signature that’s both immersive and delightfully enjoyable.

Design & Build Quality – Industrial Art Meets Ergonomic Precision

At first glance, the P50 leaves an impression. Its 3D-printed resin shells in glossy black are ergonomically contoured in a pseudo-custom shape, hugging the ears with exceptional comfort. The aviation-grade aluminum alloy faceplates introduce a striking aesthetic: matte silver with gold accents, creating a futuristic, industrial look that wouldn’t feel out of place in a sci-fi lab or mecha suit. The visible vents under concentric circular grills serve a practical purpose—they help manage ear pressure, reduce fatigue, and enhance the overall airiness of the sound.

Despite the semi-open nature, which slightly compromises isolation, the P50 remains supremely wearable over long sessions. It slips into the ear securely and stays there, without hotspots or irritation. However, do note that due to the vents, some noise does leak both in and out, which may not suit loud commuting environments.

Cable & Accessories – Premium Touches with Room for Tweaks

The P50 ships with a high-quality 6N OCC silver-plated modular cable, terminating in modular 3.5mm and 4.4mm stainless-steel connectors. It’s a welcome inclusion, especially for users who switch sources often. The braiding looks attractive, and the cable is microphone-free, but its stiffness might annoy those who like cables to drape easily. A chin slider adds wearability, and the 2-pin (0) connector system ensures easy upgrades.

The accessory package includes:

  • The IEMs

  • Modular cable

  • 3.5mm + 4.4mm plugs

  • Hard leather case

  • Two sets of eartips

  • Microfiber cloth

One improvement could be the addition of memory foam tips, which tend to improve bass perception and enhance comfort for some users. A black polished version of the faceplates, to match the shell, would also be a nice design refinement.

Sound Quality – A Tribrid Symphony That Delivers

The P50 presents a balanced yet energetic W-shaped tuning, with a tonal character that leans neutral with a hint of warmth. It’s an IEM that feels versatile—equally at home with jazz, orchestral, EDM, and rock. What sets it apart is the remarkable cohesiveness between driver types. Unlike many tribrids, nothing feels disjointed—every frequency range plays in harmony.

W-shaped tuning

Bass – Subwoofer Soul, Controlled Execution

The sub-bass is prominent and tastefully elevated, delivering a rumbly, satisfying foundation with the right tracks. It never feels bloated—fast, tight, and clean are the hallmarks of its low end. Mid-bass is punchy and quick, giving kick drums and bass guitars excellent impact without muddying the mids. The overall character remains musical, never veering into overly clinical or bloomy territory.

“It rumbles like a subwoofer, but still keeps its poise.”

Midrange – Coherent, Lush, and Engaging

The midrange on the P50 is a real highlight. It’s forward without being shouty, with a gentle warmth that adds richness to vocals and acoustic instruments. Both male and female vocals are rendered naturally, with lifelike timbre and layering. There’s an organic quality to how guitars, pianos, and strings are portrayed, offering emotion without sacrificing clarity.

Treble – Airy, Smooth, and Detailed

The treble is clean, sparkly, and extended, without ever becoming sibilant or piercing. Even treble-sensitive listeners should find this set easy to enjoy for long periods. Thanks to the planar drivers, micro-detail retrieval is high, with numerous delicate nuances emerging in cymbal work, harmonics, and background instrumentation.

“It sparkles, but never burns.”

Technical Performance – Holographic Depth and Pinpoint Precision

This is where the P50 punches well above its price class. The soundstage is wide, deep, and immersive, aided by the semi-open back and excellent driver tuning. The listening experience often feels like being in a dedicated listening room—or better yet, the Las Vegas Sphere, where every instrument has space to breathe.

  • Imaging is precise and accurate.

  • Separation is excellent, even in complex arrangements.

  • Layering is clear, with macro and micro-details well resolved.

  • Dynamics, while generally strong, could feel a touch compressed at times, especially at low volumes.

Amplification & Source Synergy – Scales Beautifully

While the EPZ P50 is fairly easy to drive, it truly scales with quality amplification. Whether it's a dongle DAC or a desktop amp, the sound expands, gaining richness, spatial depth, and detail. This makes it a great candidate for amp rolling or pairing with different sources to tailor the sound to your liking.

Cons – Minor, But Worth Noting

  • The cable, while beautiful, is a bit stiff and short for some users (me, for example).

(Ordered a couple of replacement cables for myself, e. g. NICEHCK)

  • Lack of memory foam tips in the stock kit.

  • Faceplate color choice (silver) may not appeal to all—an optional black variant could better match the body.

Conclusion – EPZ’s Breakout Star

The EPZ P50 is more than just a solid tribrid—it’s a statement piece from a company proving they can compete at a high level. With its cohesive tuning, refined industrial design, and impressive technical capabilities, the P50 manages to balance fun and fidelity in a way that’s rare at this price point.

Whether you’re an audiophile veteran looking for a daily driver or someone dipping their toes into more sophisticated IEMs, the EPZ P50 deserves your attention.

Final Verdict: Highly Recommended - Musical, immersive, and beautifully engineered.
